Dr. Angela Winslow attended the IFT 2017 conference in Las Vegas, NV from June 25-28m 2017. The conference hosted food technologists and food safety researchers involved in food related research projects. Dr. Winslow along with student researcher, Abigail Myers (UMD graduate-May 2017), has been working on this research project in collaboration with Dr. Chengchu "Cathy" Liu with University of Maryland SeaGrant Extension. The project took place from December 2015 until May 2017 for the purposes of comparing the quality of Maryland crab meat to that of imported crab meat from Venezuela. While no major food borne pathogens of human health concern were detected, this research indicated that Maryland crab meat maintained higher microbial quality than imported crab meat. The results of this research were presented in poster format on the final day of the conference, June 28, 2017.
Results of this project will be submitted for consideration in a peer reviewed journal.
