International Food Safety Training Laboratory Officially Launched

Distinguished guests from the international and food safety communities attended Grand Opening ceremony of the International Food Safety Training Laboratory, JIFSAN's latest program. The Grand Opening ceremony of the IFSTL was held on September 15th. Distinguished guests from the international and food safety communities attended The Grand Opening ceremony of the International Food Safety Training Laboratory, JIFSAN's latest program. The first portion of the event was hosted by Dr. Patrick O'Shea, Vice-President for Research at UMD at the FDA's Wiley building. UMD President Wallace Loh, FDA Associate Commissioner for International Programs Mary Lou Valdez, Arthur Caputo, Executive Vice President at the Waters Corporation, Dr. Steven Musser, Director of the Office of Regulatory Science at the FDA and Dr. Jianghong Meng, Director of JIFSAN. The challenge of food safety was emphasized and the value of public-private partnerships such as IFSTL presented as part of the solution. A short ribbon cutting ceremony followed at the IFSTL, which attracted international media. Dr. Janie Dubois, Manager of the IFSTL and Dr. Paul Young, Director of Chemical Analysis Business Development at Waters, led a tour of the new facility.
